About this Position:
We are seeking a co-teacher for Athens, Georgia’s first forest kindergarten. This teacher will work closely with the Director as co-teacher. We particularly invite applicants who would like to grow with AFK and who values the cooperative principles that inspire us. Our parent education goals and community outreach goals offer opportunities to tailor this position to your strengths.
This is an unstructured, outdoor program for children ages 3-5. This position is for 15 hours per week during the academic calendar (August-May). This includes 8 hours of direct experience with children (two mornings per week) plus additional hours for site inspection and maintenance, planning time, professional development, parent education, community outreach, and/or administrative tasks.
Bachelor’s Degree in an Education-related field
Extensive outdoor experience
Early childhood education experience
Wilderness First Aid training
Familiarity with emergent curriculum, inquiry-based education, or unstructured learning
Pass a criminal background check
Physical ability to hike and to lift or carry a small child when needed
Forest Kindergarten teacher training
Ability to play a musical instrument
Experience with the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy or other specialized, constructivist approaches.
